Jack's 1st Birthday was held at Shady Grove Park in Chino, California. I am half Korean and my kids are 1/4 but I still want them to know their culture and traditions. Jack did wear a Hanbok and we did the Doljabi. I used Korean 1st birthday a lot for ideas and information. My mom (who is Korean) lives in another state and could not make it to his party, so it wasn't as traditional Korean as I was hoping.
Everything for Jack's party was DIY. I made the invitations, cake, desserts, dol tower, decorations, party hat and bib, our families matching robot shirts and the robot photo props. My friend made the center pieces and did face painting. For activities we had the kids paint their own robot coin banks. My husband set out a couple of plastic pools and we filled them with water and water toys. We also had a "Name That Robot" game and a "Do the "Robot" Dance Off". For lunch we had it catered by the "Taco Man" and they cooked the food fresh for us on site.
We really had a lot of fun and people were very interested in the Doljabi. The only Koreans at Jack's party were my 3 younger cousins who were raised by my Caucasian father. Even they never heard of a Doljabi so they were really interested and asking questions.

Doljabi, "Name That Robot", "Robot Dance Off", paint your robot coin bank, water guns and water tables for the babies.
